1985 Ford School Bus halfway to a full conversion! |
This is a 1985 Automatic Ford school bus with a Carpenter built body, an 8.2L Detroit Diesel engine and air brakes. It runs beautifully!! I aquired it at Suffolk Transportation on Long Island a few years ago. It was used as a wheelchair bus with no seats. It was maintained by them every 3,000 miles and inspected every 6 months by law. I have followed the same steps to maintain her. It has 217,924 miles on the odometer, the engine was rebuilt in '97 so the miles are actually less that from the rebuild. You could easily put on another 300,000 miles. I have driven it thousands of miles along the east coast and middle America to festivals and concerts with no problems at all. She is ready for any kind trip imaginable!! Scroll down for a complete tour with pictures and descriptions...at the end there is a complete list of what you get (worth looking at) |
Above are two shots of the dashboard, left and right...a little rusty but can be cleaned and repainted (never got around to it)
The driver area... - 40 channel CB radio - cup holder - 2 12V power outlets - clock - AM/FM CD radio |
If you like switches, this bus is for you... I've added a few that include: Switch for 12V outlets Blue LED lights on ceiling A car alarm horn that you can make noises with (you'll figure it out) |
A view of the front half -the front set of speakers are on the floor. The front curtains are *not* included -christmas lights line the entire bus above the windows controlled by a dimmer switch above the couch. Must be run off of the 115V 1000W generator included. |
Front entrance...
This is the middle area of the bus. The bench seat opens up and is a functional storage compartment The entire length of the bus floor is covered by 1/2" plywood. Here the plywood is laminated with faux tile. The other areas are covered with carpet/rugs. |
Here we have the shelf unit across from the table... It houses the rear speakers... These speakers are also conected to the 110V home stereo you see on the bottom shelf (run off the generator when parked) This stereo recently stopped working, I haven't look into the reason why, but you will get it if you like :-) |
Just to the right of the shelf unit is this side door. This is where they loaded in the wheelchairs. The lift has been removed, but a nice thick 12V wire connected to the batteries still remains that could be useful in a conversion. Under the fire blanket is the generator. |
This is the generator that will give you power when parked. I have wired the bus to hook up to this generator through a plug. The plug then runs to 8 duplex outlets mounted along the inside walls of the bus...just like being at home! you can also see the 12V cable coming from the batteries in the right corner. |
This is the view from the front seating area towards the back... If you look to the left, you will see a supermarket flip-top garbage can (also included) behind that is a space where you may put a small refrigerator. A 110V outlet is ready for it.
Just past the side door are these two original bench seats over the rear wheel wells...(quite comfortable)
A view of the bench seats and back end of bus... Behind the curtains is a back door..and to the right is another side door. |
This is the back portion of the bus... There is a "captain's" bed on the left...all it needs is a sleeping bag. A nice comfy couch on the right... As well as a nice floor to ceiling shelf unit...(used for food storage) |
Behind the couch is a folding table...many possibilities
Here you can see the smaller side door...about 2 feet across (was going to use as an outdoor entrance to the bathroom) |
This is a shot of various camping gear (may give away) |
Now we move outside... |
Nice airhorns on the roof above the driver...
The battery compartment...the interior dome lights have been run for many hours off these.
Before I forget, here's the radio...with removable face :-P
These are high powered and very bright LEDs that are positioned in the front half of the bus...at night they light up the area with a nice blue light that isn't dark but bright enough to see everything inside (nice to drive with on)
These next pictures are of the outside body of the bus... |
Both front tires only have a few hundred miles on them.... |
Left rear tires... The inside one has a few hundred miles on it, the outside one is still in good shape... |
Right rear tires... Lookin' good |
The only body damage is the left side of the bumper...due to an incompetant parking lot guy in Philly who made us drive through a small path then turn through an entrance of a 10 foot metal fence...yeah, you think the bumper got bent?
Eight lawn chairs... for free! |
You've made it to the end of the tour! Here's what you get: Handmade window curtains 1000W AC/DC gasoline generator (w/ extra oil) AM/FM CD stereo 40 channel CB radio w/ PA 110V Home stereo Front/rear speakers Pathmark garbage can (flip-top) fire extinguisher airhorns locks for all doors front / rear heat (bus provided) all signal lights work (orange/red blinking) various cushions and pillows nails and screws 8 lawn chairs 6 mini torches 2 full size tiki torches 1 original bus floor broom and a partridge in a pear tree...
there's too much to list. Basically she needs a good home...I do not have the time to keep her around anymore. It would be a great conversion into an RV. Just add a stove, sink, and bathroom and it's a good start. I should mention the speed is capped at 55, but you will never get a ticket (I haven't) I will give personal tours and test drives to anyone serious. I will ship worldwide if need be, but you will have to pay for that part. Any other question please email me at BoogieBus@postitmedia.com. I will miss the sweet sound of a diesel engine beneath my feet, but you won't have to!
